The picture shows the old town of Göttingen (middle) flanked by the famous Gänseliesl (Goose Girl) who is a 1m tall statue placed about 2m above a water fountain in the central square. More than 100 years ago students have decided that you have to kiss the Gänseliesl on matriculation. This has by now shifted and it is the PhD students that do this, after receiving their certificate, and they also provide her with a nice bunch of flowers each. This has by now become long-standing tradition at Göttingen and at every PhD ceremony all PhD students climb across the fountain and up the metal adornments to kiss the girl, before they start partying. Thus, Gänseliesl is without doubt the most kissed girl in the world.
